Polycom have announced a new purpose-built video conferencing room system that combines Microsoft Lync 2013 and Polycom’s video collaboration technology.
The new dedicated Lync 2013 system will extend the familiar Lync user experience to the video conference room environment, featuring high-end Polycom camera and microphone options, touchscreen monitors and a tabletop touch controller. Being purpose-built for Lync 2013, it will have native integration of the Lync feature set, such as multi-party video, presence, contact search, IM, white boarding and extensive sharing capabilities. Polycom have also implemented a tight integration with Microsoft Outlook to help users start and manage meetings more efficiently.
The new product leverages the industry’s first open standards-based SVC (Scalable Video Coding) implementation, unveiled by Polycom in 2012. This approach ties in well with Polycom’s second announcement – the Polycom® RealPresence® Content Sharing Suite. This new software solution allows Lync users to share content back and forth with standards-based video collaboration devices such as room-based video solutions or mobile apps. Lync users have always been able to view content as part of the video stream but the new software from Polycom allows Lync users to view and share documents and presentations in a separate content video stream, allowing for high-definition display of content (up to 720p HD) and a larger display of participants.
